Anthropic
Creating reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems.
Job Description
Education Labs is a research-driven team within Anthropic with a product mandate: we study how AI transforms human capability development and build new product paradigms from our findings. As a Senior Research Engineer, you will act as the second technical builder on this small, mission-driven team—operating with research-level autonomy while shipping features that reach millions of users. Your work will sit at the intersection of research exploration and product execution, defining how humans and AI collaborate, and building experiences that enhance human capability rather than just optimizing AI performance.
Responsibilities:
-
Build and ship features that help users develop skills in working with AI and translate those skills into broader capability growth.
-
Architect and implement end-to-end prototypes (front-end and back-end) testing new interaction paradigms for human-AI collaboration, leveraging Anthropic’s Claude system.
-
Define technical direction and quality standards for capability-focused product work in a research context.
-
Collaborate with researchers to translate insights about skill development and human-AI collaboration into shipped product experiences.
-
Work with product, design, and research teams across Anthropic to influence how skill development principles shape product strategy.
-
Analyze product data and user behavior with quantitative and qualitative methods to understand how users develop skills with AI and what helps them become more capable.
-
Provide technical leadership through code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications / Requirements:
-
6+ years building and shipping web products, with deep expertise across the full stack.
-
Strong front-end skills (TypeScript/JavaScript, React, HTML/CSS) with a strong sense of interface design.
-
Strong back-end and data-pipeline experience (Python, API design, data analysis infrastructure).
-
Experience independently driving features from prototype to production.
-
Deep conviction about human capability and agency, interest in how people develop mastery of AI and translate that into broader capability growth.
-
Research mindset and product execution skills; comfort working in ambiguous, exploratory environments.
Preferred:
-
Experience in developer tools, creative tools, learning platforms, or products focused on skill development.
-
Background in learning sciences, cognitive science, HCI, or educational psychology.
-
Experience with LLMs in production contexts, front-end/back-end full-stack production, or published research.
