OpenAI is building one of the world’s most advanced AI infrastructure ecosystems through its Stargate program. In close collaboration with capital and industry partners, this initiative focuses on designing and deploying massive, state-of-the-art data center campuses optimized for scale, speed, and reliability. OpenAI is seeking a senior Datacenter Networking Technician to support these high-impact deployments and help translate network designs into reliable physical infrastructure.

In this role, you will be deeply involved in the physical bring-up of network infrastructure at a large partner-operated data center campus. You will work closely with OpenAI engineers, partner teams, and delivery vendors to meet strict performance and reliability targets. As the initial campus reaches steady state, you will transition into a leadership role supporting future OpenAI data center expansions, defining deployment standards and guiding implementation across multiple locations.

This position requires hands-on work in an active data center environment and the ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, high-stakes build conditions.

Responsibilities
Serve as OpenAI’s technical lead technician during active data center builds, collaborating with internal engineering teams and external contractors
Perform on-site inspections and hands-on support, including cable routing, termination, fiber testing, and real-time issue resolution
Troubleshoot cabling paths, patching, and equipment turn-up to ensure clean handoff to network operations teams
Support design reviews for structured cabling and physical network layouts, providing practical field feedback
Create as-built documentation, deployment playbooks, and repeatable engineering standards
Lead physical-layer network deployment for future OpenAI data center expansions from design through commissioning

Qualifications
7+ years of experience in large-scale data center network deployment or structured cabling
Strong expertise in fiber and copper plant design, cabling standards, and hyperscale network best practices
Proven ability to work hands-on in data center environments and resolve complex installation issues
Strong communication skills for working with construction, engineering, and operations teams
Willingness to be on-site during initial build phases and travel for future OpenAI data center projects

Preferred qualifications
Experience with automation tools or scripting for documentation or configuration
Familiarity with large-scale network architectures such as Clos fabrics
Basic knowledge of routing and switching concepts and Linux/network troubleshooting
Industry certifications such as BICSI, CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent
