OpenAI

Ensuring that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity.

Job Description

OpenAI’s Health AI team is focused on expanding access to high-quality medical expertise while setting a high standard for deploying artificial intelligence responsibly in high-stakes domains. This role supports the development of AI systems designed to assist patients, clinicians, and healthcare workers worldwide, with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, privacy, and regulatory compliance.

As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will design and build scalable systems that power both consumer-facing and enterprise healthcare products. You will take ownership of features from early-stage concept and architecture through implementation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration. The role requires working closely with product managers, designers, researchers, and safety teams to ensure systems meet strict privacy and compliance requirements, including standards such as HIPAA.

You will build and maintain backend services, data pipelines, and frontend interfaces that operate reliably at global scale. Ensuring high availability, performance optimization, and system robustness will be central to your responsibilities. You will also integrate guardrails, evaluation mechanisms, and reliability checks into production systems to uphold OpenAI’s safety standards.

This role requires strong engineering fundamentals, experience writing maintainable production-grade code, and the ability to independently own ambiguous problems from start to finish. Ideal candidates are motivated by improving health outcomes, comfortable working in regulated environments, and capable of balancing rapid iteration with long-term system durability.

The position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-moving, high-impact environment where engineering excellence and mission alignment are equally valued.
